Register for FBI-sponsored dental coding workshop

Crystal City, Va.—Registration is open for an FBI-sponsored National Crime Information Center Dental Coding Workshop here March 29-30.

The workshop, organized by the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services Division, will be held from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Embassy Suites Crystal City. The training session is designed to provide NCIC dental coding and National Dental Image Repository instruction to forensic odontologists and licensed dentists who wish to provide assistance to law enforcement in identifying missing and unidentified persons cases.

Participants will receive a certification for 16 hours of training at the end of the course, but they should also check the continuing education unit requirements for their organization or association to determine whether the credit is accepted. The FBI will conduct a criminal history background check on everyone who registers and a felony conviction will disqualify a person from participating. The FBI also asks that those who have attended a workshop before not register to allow others to participate.

The training is free, but attendees must pay for their own travel and lodging. Participants who choose to stay at the Embassy Suites can reference DCW. The FBI has not reserved hotel rooms for meeting attendees.

There are 50 positions open for the training, and registrations will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Registrants must be licensed dentists.

The registration deadline is Feb. 22. To obtain a registration form, contact Kathleen Oldaker at 1-304-625-5931.

The FBI will also sponsor a dental coding workshop in Salt Lake City on June 7-8. Stay tuned for details.
